Most Ruthless DBZ Hero?

In order I would say:
1) Raged Gohan - Really good points.
2) Vegeta - Obviously the most cold blooded killer, even when he is "good".
3) Piccolo - Was once evil. Fights with honour, but has no moral qualms about killing his enemies. In the Saiyan Saga though, I'd say he's on par with "good" Vegeta in ruthlessness. He really softens up over the years, especially when he fuses with Kami.
4) Tien - Kind of on the same level as Piccolo, but he never really had an evil side. I just see Tien as having no problems killing an enemy without thinking about it.
5) Roshi - Most of the other good characters really have no "anti-hero" traits to them. Roshi doesnt have an evil bone in his body, but when he is serious he doesnt ***** around. I think Roshi would kill any threats without blinking an eye.

I think people are confusing hero with good guy. It goes together yes but Vegeta been a hero in a way since the Cell saga. He was working with the heroes, even if he had something different in mind he still did it. He tried to stop Cell, how is that not being a hero in a way? He wasn't truly good yes, but he was a hero.

I just want to put forward my opinion on Vegeta, first of all.

I don't think Vegeta kills the Nameks in the Frieza saga to send a message, I think he does it for the thrill of it. He just enjoys killing people. He's bloodthirsty. Not only is he a Saiyan (most of them were a bad lot), but he was forced to serve under Frieza since he was a child. His entire race was wiped out, he was probably beaten regularly either by Frieza or his henchmen while growing up, and he was sent on numerous planet-purging missions, which would be enough to desensitise anyone to death.

The way I see it, Vegeta's life under Frieza screwed him up at a fundamental level. I think he enjoys killing because, back when he was Frieza's pawn, people weaker then himself, the people he was forced to "purge" for Frieza, were the only things he had control over in his life. Killing was probably a stress-reliever for him.

He mellows as time goes on, sure, but I don't think he ever loses that old enjoyment of killing. He just doesn't act on it any more. You can still see his eagerness to spill blood when he kills Pui Pui.

Anyway, to the topic at hand, that's why I think Vegeta is the most ruthless hero, even after he's turned "good". He still has that uncaring, merciless side. Gohan is ruthless when he's in his rages, but he still wouldn't hurt his friends. Vegeta showed that all it took was a little spell by Babadi to go back to murdering crowds of innocent people and fighting against Goku again. Gohan would never attack innocents, even in his fits of rage.

That's my opinion, anyway.

Oh, but I will also add a point towards Gohan being the most ruthless. Gohan actually going out of his way to torture Cell is a good point. Vegeta is absolutely brutal, but he doesn't drag people's deaths out. I think he likes the kill itself, not torturing people.

I think SSJ2 Gohan and Vegeta are pretty much on the same level, albeit in slightly different ways. That said, keep in mind that that's also SSJ2 playing a part...SSJ forms were shown to change emotions before they were mastered. I think if you discount SSJ2 Gohan, Vegeta definitely wins.

I'd say Vegeta but I don't class him as a hero until the Kid Buu saga where he doesn't get a chance to show his ruthlessness.

I'll have to say Gohan in rage boost otherwise I don't think there's any hero that's truly ruthless.
that

Gohan is usually the most gentle Z fighter until he gets angry, and Vegeta isn't really a hero until late buu saga

Piccolo on the other hand is always cold and calm when fighting,I don't think he'd have problems killing a villain if he had a chance

Vegeta still takes my first place.

Enraged Gohan is a second place though, good point.
Every villain is the hero of their own story.

krillin and piccolo. krillin wants piccolo to kill goten and trunks and himself just because they can be wished back. all this while cheerily smiling.
piccolo condemns millions to death just to buy gotenks more time.

^this definitely.

Plus Kid Goku. He wasn't evil, but he did not hesitate to kill "bad" men.

I feel that because it takes so much to trigger Gohan, he is not that ruthless at all as a whole. His compassion and love for his friends brings out a madness in which he performs ruthless acts, at least when those friends are threatened.

Gotta be Gohan. He was a complete monster as SSJ2 in the Cell Games.

Mind you, he's still brutal later on. As shown in Ultimate Gohan Vs. Evil Boo. He goes out of his way to beat down Evil Boo instead of outright killing him.

How about Goku when he's hungry? Have you seen him eat?

When Gohan goes raging he is ruthless towards his enemies but he wouldn't himself hurt or let get hurt innocent people/friends/family in his rage just to get the job done. If he was so ruthless he wouldn't have took the blast aimed for Vegeta as it weakened him greatly, he would have let Vegeta be killed than fought Cell with his full power. To me a truly ruthless person does whatever it takes to win with no feelings for friend or foe.
I would say early Piccolo or early Vegeta.
